Apple have been making advances with its camera technology, and it would seem a future model is to make use of some cutting edge technology, although do not expect this to appear on the iPhone 7.

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has issued a research note obtained by MacRumors that predicts two 5.5-inch versions of the “iPhone 7 Plus” are in development, one with a single iSight rear-facing camera and another boasting a dual-camera design. He says that Apple will offer both configurations, though warns that there will be “supply chain constraints” on the dual-camera modules.

If there is one design element that many iPhone users really dislike about Apple’s new iPhones, is that the camera lens is jutting out a bit too much.

If true, this would likely build on work carried out by LinX Imaging, an Israeli company which Apple acquired last April for a reported $20 million. The lenses would also have better sensitivity to light and greatly improved image quality in low light. KGI also suggests that the new camera would allow for an optical zoom, a first for the iPhone. On top of this, he anticipates that it will be more expensive than its other iPhone stablemates, which makes a lot of sense. Time will tell if this is the year that we finally see a dual-camera system on an iPhone.

Kuo has a good track record when it comes to Apple predictions, but it’s still advisable to take everything with a grain of salt until formal confirmation.
