I’ve been using Magic Lantern for a while now and it continues to be a go-to tool in my toolbox. Here are 5 reasons I think you should give it a try:
There’s a lot to gain. If you don’t know what Magic Lantern is, here’s the short story. Magic Lantern is a firmware add-on, originally written for the Canon EOS 5D Mark II by Trammell Hudson in 2009, and ported to other Canon cameras since. It adds a ton of functionality to your Canon DSLR, especially for filmmakers.
Helps you take better video. Magic Lantern offers a number of tools that videographers need. Zebras for under/over exposed areas, Focus peaking for quickly checking focus, Waveform, Vectorscope and more.
Photo Tools. Not only does Magic Lantern provide a built in intervalometer but it also features Bracketing for exposure, flash, or depth-of-field, Motion detection,Custom bulb timer and “Silent” mode.
RAW Video. Enough said! OK, I’ll elaborate… You all know about shooting in camera RAW right? Well, Magic Lantern now give you the opportunity to shoot RAW Video. Huge files, amazing image clarity.
Control of your Audio. Magic Lantern gives you an abundance of control over your audio. From overriding the AGC to boosting the headphone output (yes, headphone out from USB with an adapter!).
